Our Story

The Story of Otto Hill was born at the intersection of two life-altering chapters: the quiet intensity of a global pandemic and the rhythmic duties of motherhood. While my son, Otto, napped, I reclaimed my identity as an artist. Drawing from memories of the undulating Colorado Rockies, I developed a style that allowed me to step away when motherhood called and return just as easily.

What began as a painting series titled Voyager—capturing the rolling landscapes seen from a car or motorcycle—became a study in balance. By applying a grid to the picture plane, I found a much-needed sense of order. In these works, rugged, organic terrain is housed within disciplined horizontal lines, while geometric circles bring harmony to the design. My palettes are intentionally minimal, using two or three colors to create a signature effect.

These designs transitioned seamlessly from canvas to hand-cut rubylith screen prints, and eventually, into the world of textiles. Today, my background in art history and business guides Otto Hill as it evolves from large-scale paintings into heirloom home decor. Named for the collaboration between my son’s early years and the stolen moments of creativity in between, the voyage continues.
